130 Years of Duffy Elliott Lawyers

Duffy Elliott Lawyers has commemorated its 130th anniversary, marking 13 decades of dedicated service to the western region of New South Wales. First established as M.J.Duffy & Son in 1894 by Michael Joseph Duffy in Cobar, and moving to Dubbo in 1920. Michael was joined by his son Thomas Douglas Duffy in 1930. Another son, Michael Venantius Duffy later joined the firm and opened a branch in Narromine, which continues to be serviced by our office today.

Thomas’ sons (Thomas ‘Michael’ Duffy and Peter Duffy) became the third generation of Duffy’s to take hold of the firm. The fourth generation in the Duffy legacy is led by the gentlemanly Stephen Duffy and ironman Robert Duffy.

Of course, there have been a number of partners outside the Duffy lineage, including the story-telling Peter Poulton, the rugby-loving Damian Scroope, the generous Ron Maiden, and our new namesake Robert Elliott.

We would be remiss not to acknowledge the significant contribution to our firm made by the Honourable Jan Stevenson, the affable Simon Duffy, and the judicial Kelly Friend. Our staff today, and those staff who have previously shared in our journey, have made an incredible contribution not just to the firm, but also to the community more broadly.

The firm prides itself on excellence in legal services, giving back to the community, providing access to justice, and a welcoming environment. The firm’s commitment to its people-focused culture, whilst giving high quality legal advice forms the foundation of its longevity and sustained success.

Whilst honouring our past, Duffy Elliott Lawyers remains committed to evolving and adapting with the times and looks forward to serving the community for years to come.
